February Meeting Notes:
Host: Cherry's
Attendees: Bell's, Burchett's, Cherry's, Hale's, Painter's, Pedroza's, Penn's
-Workshopping / Outline:
- Painter's handed out some materials regarding workshopping new couples.
- There is also an entire workshopping guideline packet to be used for workshopping. Crystal will make copies for anyone who wants it.
- If any presenting team changes a talk, it needs to be workshopped. This could be as simple as letting another presenting team read over it just to be sure that you are still hitting all the points of the outline.
- We discussed the idea that new presenting teams could present weekends in section, ie, write talks for Friday night then present Friday night, then right talks for part of Saturday and then present them, etc. We can obviously discuss further when we have a new presenting couple.
- Some communities get together once a year and the Junior couples get together in a room and the senior couples get together in a room and they all present their talks to each other and give feedback and update as necessary. New Local Coordinators can decide if they are interested in doing this.
- National Outline Team has promised that they will have something within a year. Some changes include combining Morality, Decisions and / or Plan of Life. It is up to the local community to decide if we want to do this. We will discuss at a later date.
- Painter's are putting together a new presenting team binder.
-Host Couples
- We discussed new ideas to recruit host couples and get more couples involved in the community. Since host couples do not have to be married, we decided that we would have presenting couples on the weekend ask the engaged couples during the vision talk if any of them are interested in hosting the next weekend. We would then have an experienced host couple and a new couple.
-Mass on the Weekend
- It was recommended that we go to St. Patrick's for mass during the weekend. Crystal will put together a list of parishes in the area and mass times so that the presenting couples can choose.
- Presenting couples would just need to let Mike know what time to bring dinner depending on what time they will be going to mass.
-Vision Packet
- Bell's are going to revise the Vision Packets.
- Veola will update the NFP info sheet and send to Bell's.
- NFP packet is going to go in with the Becoming a Family section to be passed out with questions.
- Some things from the visions packet will go on the resource table.
-Convention
- Everyone needs to check the website. www.slc2009eeconvention.com
- Burchett's, Penn's and Painter's will get together to put together a hard schedule
- We need to extend an invitation to priests. Some communities may be bringing their own priests.
- We have a priest that may be willing to do a Spanish presentation.
- There are concerns about the guarantees that we have made to the hotel. We have included a survey on the website and are requesting the communites to have people fill out the survey so that we can get an idea as to how many people will be coming.
- Veola emails the Unit Coordinators on a regular basis and will encourage them to get on the website and fill out the survey.
- Babysitting / Daycare may be an issue. However, the site shows that they can coordinate babysitting on their own. This needs to be revisited.
- The upcoming Unit Meeting's agenda will include a discussion of Dues. They may possible donate money to the convention to help cover daycare.
- We don't have anyone in charge of entertainment
- We also need someone in charge of hospitality
- Karen will ask hotel if they are concerned about traffic and parking.
-Weekend Registration Fee
- According to Ken, we are getting more people paying the $300 rate than the $275, even if they pay early. He thinks people aren't reading the information and are just seeing the $300 and paying it. They are also paying the full amount even if they don't get their first choice and therefore would qualify for the early discount. Ken is interested in feedback/thoughts on this.
Local Community Discernment will be on March 28th.
